Product Specification

An innovative solid wall insulation product and system specification will be developed by the project partners (Durham County Council Housing Solutions Service and Durham Energy Institute) to incorporate the following elements that address key local and national factors contributing to current market failure –

  • New stone and brick finishes that comply with local planning constraints
  • Prefabrication and offsite manufacture of key SWI components
  • A scaffold free smart construction/installation method
  • demonstration of next phase ‘super’ insulants that are more carbon efficient than traditional products

Contract Agreement

Property owners in the target communities of South Moor, Cockfield, Ramshaw and Ferryhill will be required to sign ‘sealed’ Home Improvement contracts with the lead partner, Durham County Council Housing Solutions Service, giving permission for the SWI innovation installation at their property.

Programme of Works

A twin stream programme of works will commence simultaneously. The first stream will roll out the specified SWI system on the solid wall brick terraces in South Moor and Ferryhill. The second stream will roll out the system on stone properties in the target communities of Ramshaw and Cockfield. The contractor will be required to deliver the scheme in accordance with the programme and it is anticipated that work should take no more than 12 months and will be delivered between October 2017 and October 2018).
